What is Watermelon Fruit Salad?
Watermelon and strawberry salad is a deliciously refreshing salad. I make it all summer long with the sweetest watermelons cut into bite-sized 1-inch cubes. To this, I like to add strawberries, raspberries, and cherries along with lime and mint dressing. Thyme adds a wonderful flavor to this recipe, along with mint. Another thing I love to add to fruit salads is my secret ingredient black salt.

Ingredients to Make this Recipe
Fruits - I love the monochromatic look of the salad, so I like to use watermelon, strawberries, and raspberries. Along with this, you can also add cherries.
Herbs - I love to use mint and thyme for this salad. But, if you don't like mint, then you can use fresh basil.
Limes - You will be using lime juice and lime zest to make the dressing for this recipe.
Spices - My secret ingredient to add to watermelons is black salt. It adds the perfect saltiness to the sweet and juicy watermelons. If you don't want to add black salt, add flaky salt or crumbled feta right before serving, to break the sweet pallet of this fruit salad, and cut it with some saltiness.
Sweetener - I like to use maple syrup for this recipe, but you can use honey, or agave too.
Expert Tips to Make the Recipe
Choose the perfect watermelon. You must buy a beautifully plum red, sweet and juicy watermelon. To check if the watermelon is ripe, tap on the side of the watermelon. It should feel hollow. It would help if you also looked for a yellow spot or stripes on the watermelon. The darker the spots, the longer it is on the vine, which means it is full of flavor.
Don't like Mint? I feel mint, thyme, and lime go best together and give this recipe so much depth of flavor. But, if you don't like mint, you can use fresh basil instead.
Serving Suggestion - Serve this salad immediately after preparing it. Toss the salad lightly after adding the dressing to ensure the fruit doesn't break. The longer the salad sits, the fruits start to release moisture making the salad mushy.
Variations - You can add crumbled feta cheese to add saltiness to the recipe. I like the monochromatic look of this fruit salad, but you can also add blueberries, and blackberries. Plums and apricots will taste delicious too. You can also, add torn burrata (creamy mozzarella) pieces on top of the salad, and drizzle with some good quality olive oil.
Step - By - Step Recipe
Wash and Cut The Fruits - Wash the fruits thoroughly with water. Make sure you dry the berries completely before adding it to the salad otherwise the fruit salad will become mushy. Cut the fruits into bite sized pieces. I like to cut the watermelon in 1 inch bite sized dices. And cut, the strawberry into halves. Leave raspberries as is.
Prepare the Dressing - While the berries are drying prepare the dressing. Wash the lime thoroughly. Then using a grater, grate the lime zest of two limes. Now cut the limes in half, and juice the limes. To this add maple syrup or agave along with black salt. Mix it thouroughly and leave it aside.
Assemble and Serve - Add the cut fruit gently to a salad bowl. To this add finely chopped fresh mint leaves. Next, add in the thyme leaves. To this drizzle the prepared salad dressing. Now lightly toss the salad, and serve it in desired platter. Garnish with finely chopped mint, and serve immediately.
