What is a Mocha Banana Date Latte?
So banana date latte went viral on Tiktok, and when I saw people loving it, I thought to myself how are people loving bananas + dates + coffee? This doesn't sound good to me! But my husband was intrigued, and he wanted to give it a try! I love adding cocoa powder along with coffee, so I decided to give my mocha twist to the recipe.
But, I was wrong! It was delicious. My husband and I loved it and my friend did too!
How to Make Mocha Banana Date Latte Recipe
The recipe is super simple. In a blender, add a banana, a couple of Medjool dates, milk of your choice, an espresso shot, a little bit of cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Blend it all, and there you have it! It makes for a filling breakfast, and you can add protein powder to make yourself a mocha banana date smoothie.
Make a Banana Date Smoothie Instead
You can add a couple more ingredients to make this a smoothie. Instead of using fresh bananas, use frozen bananas to make sure the smoothie has a thick consistency. Add protein powder to pack some extra protein, and use plant-based milk to blend everything up! I will also top the smoothie with some mix seeds, for added crunch and nutrition. You can also add almond butter or peanut butter to the blender, and add some protein!
Ingredients to Make this Recipe
This recipe is very versatile, and can be made to your liking easily! The fresh ripe bananas sweeten the latte, while the dates and pinch of salt give a beautiful salted caramel flavor!
- Bananas - You will need fresh ripe bananas for this recipe. The natural flavor of bananas is beautiful and sweetens the latte perfectly.
- Dates - I prefer using seeded medjool dates. They are naturally soft and super sweet. They blend well, if you are using a high power blender like vitamix. If not, you can soak dates for about 30 minutes, so they will soften and blend easily.
- Espresso Shot - Use your espresso machine to make a shot of espresso. If not, you can also use instant coffee for this recipe. Add a teaspoon of instant coffee and mix it with ยผ cup of hot water. Let it sit and brew the flavor of coffee.
- Cocoa Powder - I add cocoa powder, but if you don't have cocoa, you can add chocolate syrup.
- Milk - I usually prefer to use oat milk or almond milk, but it does taste delicious with whole milk too!
- Salt - A pinch of salt to get that salted caramel taste!
