What are Citrus Immunity Shots?
These immunity shots are made using, orange juice, fresh ginger, ground turmeric, cayenne, black pepper, and honey. This shot is filled with antioxidants, and vitamin C, which makes it a great drink to start your day with during cold and flu season.
The recipe to make this is super simple, and get's ready quickly. I like to strike a healthy balance of all the types of foods I consume, and how nourishing it is for my body and mind. Ever since my daughter started to go to school, we started coming down with cold and flu often.
These immunity shots have helped us increase our immunity to fight off the viruses she brings home.
Why You Should Make Them
- The citrus immunity shots are super easy to make, healthy, and gluten-free.
- They are great to start your morning with during the cold and flu season
- I am not saying that they taste the best, but they give a spicy kick, and they are good for you!
- It is citrus season, so make use of all the different citrus fruits.
Variations and Substitutions
This recipe uses fresh orange juice, ginger root, ground turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne, freshly ground black pepper, and honey.
Instead of orange juice, you can make this with lemon, blood orange, grapefruits, or other varieties of citrus.
You can also use fresh turmeric for this recipe.
Add kale or spinach, and cucumbers to make a detox shot too.
I don't like to substitute honey because it is a natural cold and cough-suppressant.
I like to store the immunity shots in 2oz bottles.
Ingredients to Make the Immunity Shots
- Orange Juice - Freshly squeezed orange juice is required for this recipe. If you have a high-powered blender like a Vitamix, throw whole peeled oranges in it. It will juice it for you. You will have to strain the immunity shots if you use whole oranges instead of the juice.
- Spices - I like to add turmeric, cayenne, black pepper, and cinnamon also with some salt. It gives a spicy kick, along with adding antioxidants and anti-inflammatory. These spices have natural healing properties to fight against bacteria and viruses, so adding them to an immunity shot is a good idea.
- Honey - I like to use honey, as it has natural antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It also cuts the spice and sharpness from ginger and spices, adding a hint of sweetness to the immunity shots.
- Ginger - You will need fresh ginger root. Ginger is great for fighting viruses and bacteria, healing and soothing for throat, and is a great detoxifier too. It has a spicy pungent taste, but well I am not promising that these taste great! But they are great for you.
