Chili Cheese Toasts

These chili cheese toasts are beautifully crispy. They have a nice crunch from onions and peppers, umami from garlic, and freshness from cilantro. It is packed with a kick with green chilies and dried red chili flakes and are scrumptiously cheesy

Ingredients

  • 5 Slices Sourdough Or any bread of your choice
  • 2 Tablespoons Boursin Cheese or Cream Cheeese (Optional)
  • 1 Cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons Onions Finely Chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons Green Bell Peppers
  • 2 Teaspoons Garlic Minced
  • 3-4 Thai Green Chilies Add as per your spice tolerance
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • ½ Teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Oregano
  • 1 Tablespoon Cilantro Finely chopped

Instructions

  • Take out the butter and cheese from the refrigerator. Let it soften, by the time you prep the rest of the ingredients.
  • Start with prepping the vegetables. So I usually start with mincing the garlic. Then I move on to chopping my vegetables and chilies.
  • Preheat the oven at 425F. And, Line a baking sheet with a parchment paper.
  • Add 2 tablespoons Boursin/ cream cheese to the bowl. Next, add in 1 cup mozzarella cheese in the bowl.
  • Now add the finely chopped chilies, and the vegetables. I am using 2 tablespoons each of onions, and bell peppers. Along, with this I add 2 teaspoons of minced garlic and 1 tablespoon of finely chopped cilantro.
  • Add 2 tablespoons butter. And ½ teaspoon each of oregano, black pepper powder, and salt.
  • Mix it all well with a fork.
  • Now spread the prepared mix,on the slices of bread.
  • Bake it in the oven at 425F for 10 minutes, or until the cheese melts, and the bread is crispy.

Make This Recipe Using the Air Fryer

  • Preheat the air fryer at 350F, for 2 minutes.
  • Place the slices of the bread in the air fryer basket and toast them for 2-3 minutes.
  • Once done, remove them from the air fryer basket.
  • Increase the air fryer temperature to 400 F.
  • In the meanwhile, spread the chili cheese mixture on the toasted bread slices evenly.
  • Now place them carefully in the air fryer basket for 4-5 minutes. Cook them until cheese melts.

Cook The Chili Cheese Toasts in Frying Pan

  • Lightly toast the bread in the frying pan to cook. Now take the bread slices out of the pan.
  • Spread the prepared chili cheese mixture on the bread slices evenly.
  • Now in a frying pan over medium low heat, add butter. And place the prepared chili cheese toast.
  • Close the lid of the frying pan and cook on medium heat until the cheese melts. This should take you about 4-5 minutes.
  • Crispy Chili Cheese toast is ready!
  • Serve crispy and delicious chili cheese toasts immediately.

Notes

  • I prefer to use sourdough bread, but you can also use Frech bread, Texas Toast or Regular Bread. 
  • The number of chilies and spice level can be adjusted to your taste. When I am making for my daughter, I skip adding the chilies and red chili flakes. 
  • Line and Prepare the bread slices layered with chili cheese mix in the refrigerator. Cover them with a plastic wrap. Bake when your guests/ friends arrive. 
  • These chili cheese toasts make great breakfast options too, add more veggies to make them nutritious and filling.
